Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar passes away at 98
Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday. He was 98 years of age. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital on the 30th of June when family observed that he was not keeping well. He was admitted to the Intensive care Unit (ICU) of Hinduja Hospital, mentioned a non-Covid-19 facility, since Tuesday.
Kumar, in his heyday, was known to many as the ‘tragedy King’. The doyen of Indian film industry breathed his last Wednesday morning at 7:30 am at the Hinduja Hospital after battling a protracted illness for a very long time.
Faisal Farooqui, a family friend of Mr Kumar, posted from the Kumar’s Twitter handle, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui”
The actor, known for hits like ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ had been in and out of hospitals in the last month and the family was hoping for him to get better.
On Monday, Saira Banu informed fans that Mr Kumar’s health was improving and she requested them to pray for him so that he gets discharged from the hospital sooner. She tweeted, “We are grateful for God’s infinite mercy on Dilip Sahib that his health is improving. We are still in hospital and request your prayers and duas so that Insha’Allah he is healthy and discharged soon. Saira Banu Khan.”
Over the decades, Kumar delivered hits after hits, earning him the megastar status of Bollywood. He entered Bollywood in an era that was largely melodramatic in nature, which Dilip used to his advantage and cleverly used language and tools of cinema to enhance on-screen emotional expression.
Using voice up to the right pitch for the right mood, Dilip Saab often fabricated a range of emotions that captured the audience attention. His legacy and contribution to Indian cinema will remain forever.
